The 30th Budapest Pride is Coming

This year marks the 30th edition of the Budapest Pride Community Festival and Parade, with the slogan: “Here (at home) we are.”

The new slogan expresses that LGBTQ+ people are an integral part of Hungarian society, just like any other citizens.

The LGBTQ+ community has its rightful place in our history and culture. Contrary to frequent accusations, it is not a product of Western-imported ideology, nor is it propaganda. Rather, it consists of many individuals whose sexual orientation or gender identity differs from the majority, yet who experience similar challenges and joys in life as anyone else. Moreover, the slogan emphasizes that the LGBTQ+ community is not merely an urban phenomenon: LGBTQ+ people are everywhere, whether born in rural homesteads, small, isolated villages, or in bustling metropolises.

The 2025 Budapest Pride Community Festival and Parade will be about celebration, reflective retrospection and vision for the future, our shared roots, and the experiences and symbols familiar to every Hungarian.

The organizers of Budapest Pride are committed to making the 30th anniversary a truly memorable occasion:

  • They are preparing an anthology featuring short stories written by contemporary authors to mark this special occasion. The collection, expected to be published in the spring, will include works by authors such as Krisztina Tóth, Mátyás Dunajcsik, Orsolya Karafiáth, Bori Zelei, Péter Moesko, and Márton Gerlóczy.
  • Additionally, within the festival framework, an international human rights conference will be held, focusing on advancing LGBTQ+ rights, the challenges of the Hungarian LGBTQ+ movement, successes and best practices achieved in LGBTQ+ rights protection across Central and Eastern Europe, and the work of municipalities committed to equality.

The Budapest Pride Community Festival will take place between 6 and 29 June 2025 in Budapest and several other cities as usual. The Pride March (Parade) will take place on June 28 to commemorate the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots.
