Tax 1% – this year you can offer it to the qLit too

Between 15 March and 21 May 2024, you have the opportunity to declare 1% of your tax. This year you can also donate to qLit! The whole process is only a couple of clicks, so don’t miss the opportunity to offer financial support to an NGO that does a lot for the Hungarian LGBTQ+ community in the form of 1% of your tax, instead of giving it to the state. In this article, we describe the exact process and list the tax numbers of qLit and other LGBTQ organisations that are required to make this provision.

What exactly is the 1+1%

Since 1996, taxpaying citizens have been able to donate 1% of their personal income tax to registered NGOs. Since 1997, they have also been able to give a further 1 % to a recognised religious organisation with a technical number.  The sum that citizens make no declarations over is kept in a separate budget account and used by the state to finance various tenders. If you would like to know for sure where 1+1% of your personal income tax goes, it is worth taking a few minutes to make a declaration.

How can we make a declaration?

The easiest way to make a declaration is online, via the website eszja.nav.gov.hu. To access the service, you must have an account on the government client portal. Then you can choose with only a few clicks the organisation to which you want to donate your 1%.

  1. Click here to log in: https://eszja.nav.gov.hu/.
  2. On the page select ’Declare’ to fill out the 1+1% declaration.
  3. Fill out your personal details.
  4. Fill out the tax number of the civilian beneficiary, which in the case of qLit is 19240008-1-42 (the name of the organisation – Leszbikus Magazin és Programszervező Egyesület/ Lesbian Magazine and Programme Organiser Association – will be automatically filled out)
  5. Click ‘Review’ to double-check your data
  6. After review click ‘Save’ and then ‘Proceed to Submission’
  7. If the system deems everything correct, click ‘Okay’
  8. Click ‘Submit’

If you do not have a client portal, you can also make a declaration on paper. To do this, you can use the unregistered service of the eSZJA portal, where you can print the declaration after filling it in online and then turn it in by post.

Who to offer your 1%?

An organisation whose work you want to support. When you give to qLit, you help keep us running smoothly and continue to provide the community with programs (like pub quizzes, ping pong, and hikes) and content (as in articles and posts for relevant news, opportunities, and content).
