Give us your 1% this year! – Let us show you how and why

This year, you have from the 15th March to 20th May to make a declaration about 1% of your tax. This is a special kind of donation: it costs you nothing, but helps us enormously to continue organising our programmes and writing articles for the lesbian* community!

Important: you can make the declaration regarding 1% of your tax independently of filing your income tax. If you have 5 minutes, you can do it quickly at any time.

Tell your friends, your girlfriend, your family!

If they don’t know who to give their 1% to, or if they never bother, get them on it!

Why are we asking you to choose us?

qLit has been running for almost 8 years, with around 30 people currently working continuously on the magazine and organising our programmes – all of them completely on a voluntary basis. Over the years, our programmes have helped form countless friendships and relationships, and the programmes and the magazine have helped many lesbians* on their way to coming out and living a liberated daily life.

Our income is made up of the 1000 forints collected at our pub quizzes, the 2000 forints from the football cup (which accounted for about two thirds of the cost of renting the pitch in 2024) and the 1% tax, which we received last year for the first time. The income from the ping pong tickets goes entirely to renting the venue via Atlas.

But our costs are relatively high: paying accountants, lawyers and the technical maintenance of our website amount to at least half a million forints a year. In addition, we have all sorts of other smaller and bigger expenses (replacing ping pong paddles, making T-shirts for volunteers and buying them refreshments at our events, etc.).

We certainly do not want to make our programmes inaccessible by making them more expensive. An important part of qLit’s mission is to ensure that no one is left out of the community, out of community programs, because of economic reasons.

That’s why the amount raised from the 1% tax means a lot to us. This is where the principle of little bits and pieces adding up really applies – what’s more, in fact, even 1% of one person’s tax alone counts for a lot.

How can you offer 1% of your tax?

The easiest way to make a declaration is online, via the website eszja.nav.gov.hu. To access the service, you must have an account on the government client portal. Then, you can choose with only a few clicks the organisation to which you want to donate your 1%.

qLit’s tax number: 19240008-1-42

The official name of the association behind qLit: Leszbikus Magazin és Programszervező Egyesület. (Lesbian Magazine and Programme Organiser Association)

  1. Sign in by clicking here: https://eszja.nav.gov.hu/.
  2. On the website select ’Declare’ to fill out the 1+1% declaration.
  3. Fill out your personal details.
  4. In the ‘Declaration on behalf of a civilian beneficiary’ section fill out the tax number of the beneficiary, which in the case of qLit is 19240008-1-42 (the name of the organisation – Leszbikus Magazin és Programszervező Egyesület/ Lesbian Magazine and Programme Organiser Association – will be automatically filled out)
  5. After this you can decide if you want to also make a declaration on behalf of a beneficiary with a technical number (we advise not to let your other 1% go to waste either).
  6. Click ‘Review’ to double-check your data.
  7. After review click ‘Save’ and then ‘Proceed to Submission’.
  8. If the system deems everything correct, click ‘Okay’.
  9. Click ‘Submit’.

If you do not have a client portal, you can also make a declaration on paper. To do this, you can use the unregistered service of the eSZJA portal, where you can print the declaration after filling it in online and then turn it in by post.

If your taxes are filed by your own or your company’s accountant, ask them how you can donate your 1%.

Remember: it’s worth asking around because many people let their 1% go to waste! They might as well give it to us, right?
